Anatomy of Lag

30 Sep 2009 In: Announcement, Grapevine, Land, News, Rentals, SL Weirdness

As a sim owner, two of the biggest concerns I have is prim count, and then lag.

This is the best article I’ve seen to date that explains lag so concisely with each of the different aspects of lag broken down. There are some valuable building tips here as well. This should be bookmarked as required reading for all who attend large events and anyone who just wants to learn more about why their avatar is sliding across the sim instead of walking.

Thankfully DreamScape doesn’t have the lag like a majority of the public areas on Second Life!

Please take time to read these articles and comments. The comments contain valuable information as well!

Announcing a new Furniture Set Release by Synchronicity Designs

This set has a Moroccan theme and I think it turned out just wonderful! There are coordinated theme matching pieces and accessory decor and the couch has numerous cushion seatings and lots of colorful pillows.

Moroccan furniture and decor are some of the most colorful and elaborate patterned in the world. Moroccan style has progressively gained popularity throughout the western world in recent years.  Moroccan artisanship is elegant and amazing with elaborate motifs, colors and mixed patterns.  Moroccan style will always add life and a deep richness to your living space.  Enjoy this moorish elegance in your own home!

I just feel at home around all these deep rich colors and patterns.  I loved making this set and I hope it will enhance your special space on Second Life!  Please come by and take a look at all the accent pieces I’ve created for this set and have a sit and put your feet up!  This set is located on the upper level of our store on DreamScape II. Synchronicity Designs Is Affiliate Reseller of Imitation of Life Products

Synchronicity Designs is proud to announce its affiliation with Imitation of Life for the Texture Organizer and the Q-Translator.  We will be selling these products in our store.

I originally purchased these products and was so impressed when the opportunity to represent them in our store arose, I jumped on it.

Texture OrganizerThe Texture Organizer is simply the most innovative and feature-rich product of its kind on SL.  It is user friendly and has many extras that the competitors forgot about.  It is the one I use for building now.  You cannot be without this!

qt-box-front.jpgThe Q-Translator is absolutely hands down the best on the market.   As a sim owner I so often have to communicate with patrons and visitors that just do not speak English.  How easy is this product to detect automatically what language I need to be speaking to them!  We have couples that communicate with a translator on our island and I’m proud to recommend this product to all of SL residents.

Please come by Synchronicity and see what I’m talking about!!

Imagine my surprise as I come across an excited “very happy” naked man peering into one of our empty TradeWind Condos that was currently for rent!  I had to share it with someone on the island so I called Merlina over to see what was sticking out going on.  We had a bit of fun and sent him the pics later for embarrassing proof.  In this first pic you will see him modestly covered with a cowboy hat so you won’t be subjected to eye strain! Also Merlina sadly resorted to pointing and laughing.   The shame!  Who’s rogue cowboy slaveboy was this?  We will most likely never know. We had a few conversations what to do with it him.

What To Do Next?

We discovered that this solo cowboy was indeed very much dead, although you certainly couldn’t tell that from any angle you looked at him!  He was ghosted on our sim for all to see in a very permanent condition!!  I saved everyone on the islands the horror and shock by restarting the sim.   Really couldn’t see how we could rent the condo with this “sculpture” that had been erected on the front porch.    Just as quickly as he came…he was gone.

Yes we have fun on the islands!  Come Join Us!

Avatar name withheld for obvious reasons.

WARNING: If you have an erection lasting for more than 4 hours, seek medical help immediately or restart sim.

Inventory...Lost in Space?

Occasionally we have to return objects to residents who lose them here and there and visitors who drop or rez objects on the islands. At times which are unknown to us, SL “loses” these items. There is some hope of recovery of these lost objects and I hope that this tutorial wiki will help you learn about what the Lost and Found folder does and a complete list of steps a resident can follow to recover any inventory that is missing and is recoverable. The steps outlined are specific to the type of loss that occurred.

Unfortunately everyone has lost inventory in SL. It is the nature of this software when the grid isn’t working at its optimum, or even when it is working correctly, things just happen.

You can follow these steps to keep your inventory working at the very best it can!

Linden labs previously put forth a Inventory Loss Reduction Initiative, but always inventory will be a huge problem for residents.

I also learned that there is a little off-world program now that can back up your inventory (some of it anyway) and you might want to check it out. Second Inventory

Shout out to all our DreamScape Friends!

We have been a little quiet lately due to some unforseen RL stuff but, Venus and I would like to thank all our DreamScape I & II Island residents for making our islands special. It is a pleasure to be able to serve you all and we hope that you are well and happy. Cheers!

P.S. – also like to thank resident interior decorator for her interesting photo contributions to our home and for redecorating for us in our absence (see above).

Zombie Sightings on DreamScape!

WARNING to all DreamScape Island residents:

There have been recent reports of a zombie sightings in one or more homes around the island. It appears that this zombie is especially attracted to women who meet the following in-world characteristics:

  • Living alone for a long period of time (e.g. Spinsters, Old maids, Hags, etc.)
  • Have a extraordinary fear of all types of zombies (including animal zombies like undead pigs, rats, parrots, lizards, etc.)
  • Personality types that are driven to buy numerous homes or land for no apparent reason.

Please report any sightings of zombies to Venus or myself as soon as possible. Thank you!

For your saftey, should you encounter one of these zombies, we have included a helpful “Hot to kill a zombie” top-10 list:

10. Throw records
Doesn’t really kill zombies, but it’s one hell of a way to clean up a bad record collection.

9. Chainsaw
The chainsaw can cut through even the thickest skull and will destroy a brain in seconds.

8. Toaster
When swung by the cord, one can get incredible velocity; also makes toast.

7. Hammer
Another popular tool. Good for the strong and weak alike, and perfect for the novice zombie killer.

6. Fire poker
Heavy, well sized, and very versatile, serving the stab-happy and blunt-crazy zombie killer alike.

5. Pump-action shotgun
Most movie characters are terrible with the shotgun, but it’ll always be a popular choice.

4. The Old Door Trick
When zombies try to come in, slam the door on its head.

3. Rocket Launcher
Legend has it a U.S. college student wrote an essay called, “The Best Way to Kill a Zombie is with a Rocket Launcher.” Who could argue with that?

2. “The View”
To kill a zombie, you must destroy its brain, and what better way to do that than listening to Starr Jones and Meredith Viera?

1. Motorcycle
Go Milla Jovovich! Her scene riding her bike down the aisle of a church in RE:2 was amazing. A must in any zombie invasion.

{many thanks to the source of this list}

Banana Hammock

With the 7Seas Fishing Game you never know what you will catch, and what a whopper I saw this week! Ok, I agree this could have come with some Brazilian Nuts for a little more taste, but you have to admit, its cute even without a little bikini whacks! Indigo Perway, you are a true man!

Did Jen Shikami have this in mind when she designed the catch of the day in the 7Seas Fishing Game?

About Dreamscape

The DreamScape Islands I & II of Second Life are two lushly terraformed private estate islands surrounded with warm swirling turquoise water. You will find DreamScape quiet and exotic with fascinating residents. DreamScape Offers numerous amenities for our residents. DreamScape has often been described as Second Life's best kept island secret!

From just exploring to walking beaches and climbing mountains to a very romantic evening with your love interest, we have everything an island can offer to a SL resident. There is a huge Venetian pool for parties, three beautiful dance floors, and cozy campfires and hidden cuddle areas. Now we have sim-wide fishing you will see people showing off their catches! We have open waterways for boating and open air for air vehicles and balloons. Each Dreamscape Island has its own personality.

If becoming a land owner isn’t what you need right now, we offer rentals by the week. Currently we have 21 rentals that have five payment levels and unique designs with different sizes for your needs. Our rentals are highly desirable because we have spared no prim in developing them or landscaping them. This development has made DreamScape one of the more unique islands to be found.

Try a get-away and see if you could bear to leave this magnificent place. We invite you to come meet us, and see what we can offer. Make your Second Life the life you have always dreamed of, on DreamScape.
